About This Report
The State of FinOps 2026 is IFO4's fourth annual survey of enterprise cloud financial management practices. This year's research draws on responses from 512 practitioners and leaders across 6 industries, representing organizations with combined cloud spend exceeding $2.4 billion annually.
Key Themes in 2026
AI/ML cost governance is the defining challenge. 73% of respondents report that AI infrastructure spending is growing faster than any other cloud cost category, yet only 31% have formal AI cost governance frameworks in place. The gap between AI spend growth and governance capability is the defining FinOps challenge of 2026.
Multi-cloud complexity is increasing. 68% of enterprise respondents now operate across 2 or more cloud providers, up from 52% in 2024. Multi-cloud FinOps remains significantly more mature in the research literature than in practice.
GreenOps is transitioning from aspiration to requirement. CSRD and SEC climate disclosure requirements are driving cloud carbon measurement adoption: 47% of large enterprises now measure cloud carbon, up from 18% in 2024.
The FinOps talent gap is widening. Demand for certified FinOps practitioners grew 89% year-over-year, against a 34% growth in supply. Compensation continues to increase, with senior practitioners earning an average of $187,000 in total compensation.
